project details ─

Every spring, Biola University's Student Orientation Services and Spiritual Development departments select a theme for the upcoming school year. This theme is to be reflected in the Orientation and Welcome Week for incoming freshmen and transfer students, as well as in the entire year's chapel programming. The theme for the 2019-2020 academic year, "With"

Drawing from the vision, I developed a main branding package for the theme, creating pieces for both print and digital.

Beyond the basic branding of the "With" theme, there needed to be three cohesive, yet distinctive sub-brands for the departments of Student Orientation Services, Parent and Family Relations, and Spiritual Development. Based off of the vision for Biola University's 2019-2020 chapel theme, I developed a main branding package to produce both print and digital pieces for Biola's Student Orientation Services, Parent Relations, and Spiritual Development.

Project completed while Graphic Designer at Biola University.

Initial Branding

The initial aspect of this project (that later branched into the other sub-brands) began with the branding for Biola University's annual Orientation and Welcome Week.

Parent Relations

After creating the art direction for Student Orientation Services (SOS), there needed to be a sub-brand for Biola University's Parent Relations, since there would be concurrent events for parents and families during Orientation and Welcome Week. The print materials for these events were combined in the same package sent to every incoming student — therefore these materials for parents and families needed to be distinguishable, but still coherent to the branding.

Spiritual Development

Not only was "With" the theme for Orientation and Welcome Week, but it also served as the theme for all chapel programming run by Biola University's Spiritual Development for the 2019-2020 academic year. Because this theme would run throughout the year, it had to continue to carry the feel of the initial brand while also having its own unique brand elements, especially since its audience included the incoming students who had already seen the SOS brand in their orientation materials. In the chapel sub-brand, the main elements were 1) the usage of the hands from the Creation of Man line drawing as a watermark and 2) the custom hand-lettered typography based off the main "with" logo.

Campus-Wide Programming

One of the final components needed for this year-long programming was a "With" branded t-shirt. There were two variations - one for the general student body and the other for all departments that would be involved with any type of the "With" events for the year.
